Sgt. James W. Gomillion was my friend and neighbor and I truly respected and honored him for what he did for our country. He drove tanks for General Patton. We often met at Hardee's in Vestavia to talk about football, politics and cutting grass. He was very, very kind to everyone and was, in my opinion, an American hero. I never knew what the big tattoos were for, the ones on servicemen's arms. He told me that they were for identification for the families who lost loved ones in battle. ...
