Jim and Richard, so sorry to hear your dad has passed. He always treated me so special! Maybe because I was his only girl on the Hassett Hill! Your parents were an inspiration to others and one of the best models of true love I know. They are in heaven drinking coffee and talking about their wonderful life together. I pray your precious memories are with you both as you bear this tough 2014 year for your family. I do miss the Goodwin Gang! Love to all, DeLaine

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to James U. Goodwin our Brother-in-Arms and fellow Legionnaire. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jim. And to Jim it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving in the U.S. Army and for his loyal support of the American Legion Post 14. Jim, you were a valued Legionnaire, a wonderful comrade, a true Patriot. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jim's family and loved ones.

When Ford Motor Company established the battery manufacturing plant to support several of their Auto Assembly operations from the Shreveport facility back in the late l960's, Jim was instrumental in bringing a tremendous wealth of knowledge in the area of Material Handling from his previous employment with UOP. He was assigned the dayshift Material Handling Supervisor while I was fortunate to be assigned to the afternoon shift. The plant start up included many weeks and months wherein
Jim would work 3:00 AM to 3:30 PM while I caught the 3:00 PM to 3:30 AM shift. While all of our fork lift drivers and material handlers were all hand picked, Jim's guidance, patience, and expertise made for many years of profitable and enjoyable employment. I can speak with a great volume of authority when I reveal that Jim never had a negative word about anyone and was always prompt in telling all members of our department what progress was being made and "To keep our noses to the grindstone!" Jim was not only a friend, mentor, and colleague, he was a most favorable servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
