B.W. Foster Funeral Home - Portsmouth Obituary

PORTSMOUTH- James David Gough, Sr. passed into an eternal, restful peace February 18, 2018.  David was born on May 3, 1937, in Yadkinville, NC. He was predeceased by his parents, James Howard and Hattie Sprinkle Gough; his brother, Thurmond Gough; and his beloved son, James David Gough, Jr. He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Joanne Shea Gough; daughters Teresa Gough Bowers (Donald) and Natalie Gough (Robert Britts); and grandchildren Jessica Bowers-Smith (D.J.), Donald R. Bowers II (Donnie), Anna Shea-Lena Bowers, and Janeree Gann (Jeremy); seven great-grandchildren; and his cherished pets Sammy and Stinky.

David was a retired Sergeant from the ARMY National Guard Reserves and an electronics technician from Norfolk Naval Shipyard.  He was a loving father and husband and enjoyed traveling (especially cruises), photography, boating, hunting and fishing.  He loved to collect and repair old lawn mowers and preferred to perform almost all repairs in his home and on his vehicles.  He was always available to his children and grandchildren when in need and without complaint.

He will be missed by his family, but will finally have the much-needed rest and peace that he so deserved.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00a.m., Saturday, February 24 at Baker-Foster Funeral Home, 5685 Lee Farm Ln., Suffolk. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
