James Graham

1926 - 2015

James Madison Graham III of Boulder, Colorado, formally of Pittsburgh, PA, Milwaukee WI, and San Marino, CA, passed away on June 11, 2015. James was born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 19, 1926 to James Madison Graham Jr. and Mary Louise Reid (Brown) Graham. James was in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-29 crewman at Lowry A.F.B. in 1945. James attended and graduated in 1945 from Phillip Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire. He went on to graduate from Harvard University in 1949 from the school of Arts and Science with a degree in Economics. In 1946, 1947, and 1948 he lettered in Lacrosse and was a member of the Harvard Varsity Club. James came to Colorado in 1971 to work for the Lange Company as Vice President and general manager of production. In 1978 he joined Storage Technology Corporation where he was the facilities manager until his retirement in 1995. James was a lifelong accomplished sailor, sailing extensively on the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, and the Atlantic Coast of New England. He was also a passionate downhill skier for 62 years, active in the Boulder Tennis Association from 1985 through 2008, and enjoyed hiking Colorado mountain trails and exploring Colorado Jeep roads. After retirement James especially enjoyed volunteering for summer work crews to restore railroad cars on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, which he did every summer from 1995 through 2007. He is survived by his wife Barbara Louise (Laughton) Graham, his son James M. Graham and (Marsha), his daughter Diana L. Graham, his brother William Graham of Charlotte, Vermont, sister Louise Mand of Dublin, Ohio, and his grandson James M. Graham. As a family we have been so fortunate to have such a fine man as husband, father, and grandfather. Services for James will be Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 11:00 am at Crist Mortuary, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, Colorado. Interment will be at Red Lion Cemetery in Red Lion, Pennsylvania.
