My dad, Howie Burns, once told me that the Grindle brothers were two of the fiercest competitors he ever coached. I remember in 1978, East Side Post 420 progressed through the loser’s bracket of the American Legion state tournament and had to travel to Lawrence, MA to play Norwood, a highly-favored team from the winner’s bracket.
