Lake Orion, Michigan
James George Haifleigh; of Lake Orion; passed away at the age of 85 on March 6, 2017 of Pneumonia at Crittenton Hospital of Rochester. Dad was born in Detroit in 1931 to Elsie J. Reinelt and Harry J. Haifleigh. He joined his older brother, Harry John Haifleigh (born in 1926) who passed away in 2007. Jim graduated from Pershing High School of Detroit. He then joined the US Air Force where he was stationed in Korea as a Mechanic, where he did his part in giving the people of South Korea freedom and a better standard of living, something the people of North Korea did not appreciate, even today. He received the Korean Service Metal, United Nations Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal and the Good Conduct Metal. He eventually returned home to start a family and become an Automotive Product Designer. He was highly respected in his field and retired from Cadillac Motors, Detroit in 1997. He enjoyed skeet shooting, photography and carpentry, of which he always had time to help his children with. Dad was a well-liked man, always showing respect, kindness and consideration to all. Before leaving to serve in the Air Force, Dad married the love of his life and our mother, Doris Marie Poblock on January 19, 1953. Doris passed away on September 13, 2016 at the age of 85 of an Aneurysm at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. Mom was born in Detroit in 1931 to Hedwig Gutowski and Bernard J. Poblock. She also graduated from Pershing High School of Detroit. Her occupations included Tele Typist at Merrill Lynch, Floor Secretary at Beaumont Hospital and Automotive Detailer at Troy Design. Doris was an extremely dedicated wife and mother who seemly had an endless amount of energy when taking care of her children, home and yard. Losing her mother at the age of six left a large hole in her heart but also made her a very strong and independent minded person who would take on most challenges she wanted to accomplish. Her love for her family knew no bounds and she would do anything she could to help her children. Dad stated many times in his last few months of life that “she was truly one of the good ones”. We loved her deeply and miss her greatly. Doris is survived by her sister Geraldine Bieszke; and joins her other siblings in Heaven, George Poblock, Jane Stema, and Virginia Maes. After 64 years of marriage, James and Doris are now joined in Heaven. They are survived by their children, Nancy H. (Tom) Aksten of Lake Orion, Michael J. (Susan) Haifleigh of Northville and James Patrick (fiancée Renee M. Denamur) of Hazel Park; and their grandchildren, Jaclyn and Christina Aksten and Christopher Haifleigh. A Memorial Service will be held for both James & Doris in the near future. The family will send out cards with the details of the service.
