James Byron Hall

I only recently heard that Mr. Hall left us. I was a student of his at Santa Cruz, just before he retired, and we stayed in touch over the years. He was a wonderful teacher and mentor, and the fact that we'd both sailed in the Merchant Marine (though some forty years apart) gave us a bond. I was so happy to be able to send him copies of my two books when they were published, and I know a good part of whatever small success I've had as a writer came from his good teaching and counsel.
