James “Jimmy” Allen Hannel, 55, of Leland, NC, died September 15, 2018 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.


He was born on October 15, 1962, in Wilmington, NC, the son of Lillie Spivey Hannel and the late Frederick Charles Hannel.


Jimmy was a veteran of the US Army. He held many jobs during his career including being a truck driver and property manager among others. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He especially enjoyed time spent on his boat.


Surviving in addition to his mother is his wife, Debra S. Hannel; two sons, James Allen Hannel, Jr. “Buddy” and Bradley James Hannel; one daughter, Renee Hannel Nagel (Christopher); two stepsons, Jason Ganey and Dylan Ganey; a stepdaughter, Julia Ganey; eight grandchildren; one brother, Tony Cartrette (Wilma); a sister, Amelia Ludwig (Joseph); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. Also remembered is a sister, Debra Hern who preceded him in death.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday, September 25 at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, September 26, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.


Pallbearers will be Bradley James Hannel, Sr., James Dwight Hern (J.D.), Randy Travis Hern, Chris Nagel, Chris Garofolo and Timothy Efird. Honorary pallbearers will be Chuck Garofolo and Charles Spivey, Jr. (Mack).
