Home and Family
Some of James A. Haran's happiest moments were spent in the backyard of his home in Malverne, on Long Island. It was there that he held countless barbecues with his family and friends, sometimes with as many as 100 people playing volleyball and table tennis and eating hot dogs and hamburgers. It was there that he splashed in the pool with his four children. And it was there, two years ago, that he spent a weekend planting 30 evergreen trees around the yard to make it into the haven he dreamed of.

Mr. Haran, 41, was a broker at Cantor Fitzgerald, but his life was centered on his home and family. He was tall and broad and gentle, the kind of man who loves dressing up as Santa to entertain the kids, as he did at a party last Christmas. He took his mother to church every Sunday, and he and his wife, Carol, would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in March 2002. "Jim's biggest accomplishment, in his eyes, was marrying his best friend Carol and raising their four children," said his sister, Mary Haran.

Not sure what to say?

I was very sad when I saw his name among those killed on 9/11 , he looked like my family. I sent his photo to all my siblings. My father was named James Haran from Charlestown Co Mayo Ireland who died age 40 when I was 14.
I hope you have all been able to recover enough to find happiness. Catherine Haran

Thinking of Jimmy Haran today. Old team mates on VSN freshman football and track teams. I remember how hard it was to block Jimmy in practice. Gone but never forgotten.

Thinking warmly of the Haran family again, now with the opening of the 9/11 Museum. Hoping you are all thriving.

Jimmy Haran was one of the nicest.sweetest guys I have ever known....I cannot recall a time when I did not see a huge smile on his face....even when he was lining up to drive somebody into the ground during football drills...I wish for much health and happiness for his children and family!

Maybe a distant cousin - from Sligo and Dublin Ireland - thinking of you and all so needlessly and tragically lost

thinking of you today, RIP Jim.

You are in My Prayers today Jimmy ....

As part of a 9/11 tribute in St.Louis a flag was hung with a picture and where a person worked that perished that day. The flag I was given was the 1 with "james Haran" on it. So I decided to google and learn more about the person he was. Very touched by the memories l read of him. I hope his family and friends have found peace with their sudden loss that day.
