James "Jay" Harrington, 69, died peacefully in his home in Bayville, NJ on March 28th, 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and children after his battle with cancer. He was the son of the late William T. Harrington and Anne Dolan Harrington and the third of 6 children, with whom he had many fond memories of growing up together in Tennessee and Westfield, NJ. In his lifetime, the first thing anyone noticed about Jay was his sense of humor. He enjoyed lunches with his daughter, Nancee, and watching the Jets with his son, Brian, and enjoyed everything with his grandchildren and, of course, all things Irish! He was an avid Mets and Jets fan and enjoyed the beach and sunny climes and had relocated to Myrtle Beach, SC for 8 years until returning to New Jersey in 2016. Jay would talk politics with anyone who cared to listen, and he was a great listener himself. He was a good, genuine, and loyal friend to many, and was loved by his many nieces and nephews. Before retiring, he was employed by William Zinsser & Co. Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Kennedy Harrington, his daughter Nancee Harrington and son-in-law Brian Rudden, and his son Brian Harrington and daughter-in-law April Harrington. He was adored by his 5 grandchildren, Michael and Nicole Kirschner, Lindsey, Brenden and Emilee Harrington. Jay also leaves behind his sister Kathy Caputo and her husband Jack of New Rochelle, NY; brother Bill Harrington and his wife Vearl of Barnegat, NJ; brother Kevin Harrington and his wife Joyce of Clinton, NJ; sister Karen Disch and her husband Jim of High Bridge, NJ; and sister Melissa Eustace and her husband Rich of Middlesex, NJ. A joyful celebration of Jay's life will be held at later date to include his large Irish clan. Memorial contributions may be made in Jay's memory to: St Jude Children's Research Hospital and Feed the Children.

Not sure what to say?

I am deeply saddened by the loss of my good friend Jay. My wife Nicole and I have a lot of great memories with Jay and Kathy. Jay you are truly one of my best friends. I wish the best for Kathy. You will be missed.

I loved “the Uncle” and I’m so sad he is no longer with us. We loved joking around and when I was little he really pushed me in attempt to deal with my ridiculous level of shyness. I think he truly enjoyed messing with me (it makes me laugh to think about it) and frankly I loved it as well. Anyway we shared many good memories and conversations, which I’m very thankful about. My heart is with the entire family during this difficult time.

Mets games with Uncle Jay and the family are amongst my fondest childhood memories. Mets games just won't be the same without his frustrated taunts.

Deepest condolences to all the Harrington clan.

I will always remember Jay as a kind hearted guy willing to help anyone. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to all of the Harrington family.

"Patty and I are so sorry to hear of the loss, of your husband Jay. May God comfort you and your family during this stressful time."

Kathy so sorry for your loss.

So sad. My condolences to all the family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! Jay will be truly missed by all who knew him.
