Not sure what to say?

Jim was my instructor and friend in 1961. On one occasion he was trying to get me to advance the throttle before closing the carb heat on go arounds at National City. The third time I started to do it in reverse he slapped my hand and then lectured me half way down the runway and then calmly advanced the throttle and took off in the remaining runway. I never did it wrong again. With fond memories.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

Always enjoyed our chats about flying when Jim was sitting on his porch opposite our home on the Highlands. Being from England and a pilot of lesser experience I could only wonder at what Jim had accomplished in his flying career. My wife, Sheila, and I send our deepest sympathy to Ruth, Jim Jr, and the rest of the family.
God Bless

Uncle Jim and Aunt Ruth and my cousins were always kind and loving when we visited. I remember spending some week-ends with them at their cabin in Big Bear when Brian was very young. And several years ago when Rich and I were able to spend some time in San Diego we enjoyed spending time with the Hawns. The times we spent together were special.

I have a wonderful memory of the time when Uncle Jim landed a twin engine plane at the very small airport near our hometown. It was the first time such a plane had ever landed there and naturally he made quite an impression! In fact, I'm certain that my mom (Jim's baby sister) and dad became way more cool in town after this!

The Hawn family reunion held at Uncle Jim and Aunt Ruth's place in San Diego when I was twelve was great fun and also created many treasured memories. The Rose...

Dearest Uncle Jim,
You are going to be missed so much by your family and by all the people that knew you. The generosity you and your family showed when the Hawn clan descended on San Diego for our last reunion was so touching and meant so much to those of us who were able to attend. You were still driving your motor home around and welcoming all to enter and take a seat. It's hard to picture you driving anything other than that big rig.
On the other hand,...

When Jimmy called to tell me his father had passed I was really hit hard emotionally. Our dear Uncle Jim was a tremendous brother to our mother, and he was an equally terrific Uncle. Always the positive influence on the family, through his actions as well as his words. We know by his actions throughout his life that his place in Heaven is secure. His new method for flying no longer requires and engine. RIP Uncle Jim, we love you.

Remembering my "Uncle Jim" with much love. He and Merle, his older brother who was my Dad, had great fun teasing each other.
It was wonderful to visit with him and Ruth and other family at the Hawn Reunion a few years back. Love and Hugs to you all.
