HAYES, James E., a retired detective with the Richmond Police Department, departed this life June 19, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Sheppard Hayes; his mother, Irene Hayes; and his brother, Clarence Hayes. He leaves to cherish his memory a brother, Bob Hayes (Renee) of Rochester, N.Y.; son, Keith Chapman; daughter, Jeanine W. Cook; three grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins, among them a special niece, Cynthia Oliver (Darell); other relatives and friends, among them a family friend, Lillian Cotman; and Club 533 members. Remains rest at the Mimms Funeral Home, 19th and Hull Streets, where the family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m., and where funeral services will be held Thursday, June 23, 11 a.m. Rev. Ronald C. Taylor Sr. officiating. Interment in Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
