James D. Hemperly, 76 ,of Massillon, died Friday, October 10, 2003, at Aultman Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sunday, March 13, 1927, in Massillon, and was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church and AARP. He was an avid gardiner.

He retired from Fleming Foods in 1989 where he was a lift operator and truck driver for 42 years.

Served in the Army, , and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include wife Betty (Mang) Hemperly to whom he was married 50 years , son & daughter in law Thomas J. & Kathy Hemperly of Jackson Twp., son Jeff Hemperly of Dallas, Texas, son Mark Hemperly of Massillon, daughter Lynn Limbach of Massillon, two brothers Wiliam Hemperly, Sr. of Jackson Twp., and Terrence Hemperly of Massillon, and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in Death by his parents Floyd D. and Verina R. (Fichter) Hemperly, and one sister.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Barbara Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 10 AM, with Fr. Thomas Cebula celebrant.

Burial will be at Brookfield Cemetery, in Tuscarawas Twp., Visitation will be at Heitger Funeral Service - Massillon Chapel on Monday, October 13, 2003 from 6 to 8 PM Memorials can be made to St. Barbara Building Fund, 2813 Lincoln Way W., Massillon, Oh 44647
