To Honor the Memory of

JAMES L. HENDRICK, SR.

Mr. James L. Hendrick, Sr., age 81, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at his residence.

Born March 5, 1923, in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, he was the son of Zeno Cleveland & Mary (O’Riley) Hendrick, both of whom preceded him in death. He enlisted in the US Navy on Oct. 29, 1942, reporting for duty on March 4, 1943. He was commissioned an Ensign and earned his flight wings before shipping off to the Pacific Theatre, where he flew an F6F Hellcat fighter in the US effort to achieve air superiority over Saipan and the Marianas Islands. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 19, 1945. He returned home to attend Hanover College for one year, where he played football. He was united in marriage to the former Myrtle Howard on June 4, 1949, a union which was blessed with three sons and one daughter. Mr. Hendrick drove a truck for OK Trucking for 36 years, retiring in 1986. He had a passion for hunting most of his life and in his later years became an avid golfer. He also enjoyed piddling. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #934 in Madison. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local #89 in Louisville.

A LOVING FAMILY

Mr. Hendrick will be missed by his daughter & son-in-law, Mary & Robert Shepherd, of Hanover, IN; three sons, James L. Hendrick, Jr. & his wife, Karen, of Nancy, KY; Thomas A. Hendrick, of Fort Wayne, IN and Paul A. Hendrick & his wife, Gert, of Troy, OH; eight grandchildren, James L. Hendrick III, Jamie Cordell, Jennifer Hendrick, Ryan Hendrick, Andrew Hendrick, Christopher Hendrick Patrick Hendrick and Clint Shepherd; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Cordell; one sister, Sarah “Pinky” Dattilo, of Madison, IN; several nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hendrick was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Hendrick, on June 23, 1996; one granddaughter, Laura Ann Shepherd; two brothers, Edward and Zeno Hendrick.

FUNERAL CEREMONY

Mr. Hendrick will be remembered in a funeral ceremony conducted by The Rev. John A. Meyer at 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 at the Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison. Interment will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens, where a flag presentation ceremony will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion.

VISITATION

Family & friends may gather for visitation from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, Sept. 30, and 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. EST on Friday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.

PRAYER SERVICE

A prayer service will be conducted beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.

EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the King’s Daughters’ Hospice or Meals on Wheels. Cards are available at the funeral home.

It was great seeing all of you again although I hated the circumstances. Find comfort that your mom & dad are together once again and that they will be watching over you. Two very special angels! I have lots of fond memories of them and all of you. Memories will last forever and stories will be told when all of you gather which will keep your mom & dad alive in your hearts forever.
