Not sure what to say?

My late husband, Steve Dunning, was Judge Von der Heydt's law clerk, in 1968. Steve felt it was such a privilege to work for him and we both enjoyed his gracious welcome to Alaska. You and Judge Von derHeydt were both very kind and thoughtful to us and it was such a pleasure to get to know you both as we also got to know Alaska. After that 2-year clerkship, we decided Alaska was home and 45 years later, I am still here. It was wonderful to ssee you both several years ago at your dinner for...

We are very sorry to hear of Judge Von der Heydt's passing. He was a great Jurist and a fine gentleman. Our sincere condolences.

I treasure the memories made when I worked with Judge Von der Heydt as his Judicial Assistant. He was always courteous, appreciative, and had a great sense of humor. We laughed a lot together. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go to Mrs. von der Heydt during this time. The two of you together were magic.

If the measure of a man is reflected by how many lives he touched with his humor, humility and good graces, here was a great man. We love you Verna.

You're in our thoughts and prayers. We know how very special the Judge was to you.

May the blessings you gave all Alaskans be yours for eternity.

Verna,
Suzanne and I were deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. He was a good friend and a very prominent and well respected judge. We have fond memories of his wonderful sense of humor. I have a very special memory of him as he was the first judge I appeared before after my admission to the bar in January 1962.
All our love,
Suzanne and Leroy

Rest with the angels, Jim Von der Heydt, thank you for your great contribution to Alaska.
