Not sure what to say?

Most of my memories of Jim are of him when we were children. I would see him when we traveled to our cottage at Holland. I am delighted to see a wonderful memorial.

Please join family, friends, former co-workers and students for a memorial/open house to celebrate the life of Jim Hoffman on June 17, 2014 from 4pm to 7pm at Brann's 4157 S. Division, Wyoming Michigan 49548. And help us by spreading the word.

What I remember the most about Mr. Hoffman, besides his sense of humor and appreciation for the absurd, was how he organized out of town trips for us so that we could enjoy and experience live theatre. He obviously did these things because he wanted to, they weren't a part of his job description. He was a true teacher, mentor and inspiration.

It's funny - the things you remember about a person. Dalmatians, Reuben sandwiches, beautiful river homes, and large chess sets will always bring thoughts of a high school teacher and coach from so many years ago. He nearly flunked me in a class. That D minus scared me to learnin I think. It was impressive, the way he was always there to pay respects to peers that went before him. You taught us a lot in unique ways. Thanks Mr. Hoffman!

Sad to hear of Mr. Hoffman's passing. A great teacher, and a good man. He was my history teacher, debate coach, and friend. Went to Tiger games with him and even camping one summer. He was a funny guy, and his love of jazz kindled my love of jazz as well. I still hear Dizzy Gilespie's trumpet waking me up some mornings. God bless, rest in peace Mr. Hoffman.

Jim was my "little" cousin. Since we did not live in Michigan I saw him rarely, and appreciate being able to read the tributes and learn more about the high regard in which he was held.

I fondly remember Mr. Hoffman as my favorite teacher, play director, and Speech teacher back in the time of JFK. He was fun, challenging as my teacher and baseball coach. As someone else said, he was one of a kind.

I will never forget him taking me out of a class to ask me if I'd like to fly to Milwaukee to watch Al Kaline get his 3,000th. hit. We watched 3 games and had a great time. He was a real student of the game of baseball and transferred his knowledge to every player he coached. I will continue to think often.

Our condolences to the Hoffman family upon learning of "Mr/Coach Hoffman's" passing. Mr. Hoffman was a FUN teacher and I (PD) enjoyed his speech and theatre classes as well as my husband, Jeff. Rest in peace, Mr. Hoffman.
