James “Jim” Horn, 67 of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

James Stephen Horn, son of Alayos and Amelia (Fedal) Horn, was born September 14, 1949, in St. Louis, MO. He was a 1967 graduate of Maplewood High School in Maplewood, Missouri. He married Dede Wells, September 9, 1972, in Oskaloosa. They made their home in Oskaloosa and Jim began his employment with 3M in Knoxville. He worked at 3M in the lab for 33 years, retiring in 2007. Jim enjoyed nature and the out-of-doors and also enjoyed collecting various types of memorabilia. He had great compassion for children with special needs because of his brother’s and grandchildren’s special needs.

His family includes his wife, Dede of Oskaloosa; his children: James Horn of Oskaloosa and Katherine Horn; his grandchildren: Maria, Krusor, Rhiannon and Ella; and a sister, Judy Daniels of Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Horn.

Private family graveside funeral services will be held at Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin after 1 p.m., Monday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will be present from 4-6 p.m. to greet visitors. Memorials may be made to Reese’s Rainbow, an adoption grant group for children with special needs.

For Dede and James and Kathy and Grand Childs of Jim, I want to wish you my heartfull and deepest sympathy, still with tears in my eyes when I write this in German Mein herzliches Beileid !!!!. Knewing Jim now 26 years cause about 3M, I lose a friend/buddy in the US. During my business trips I've spend a lot of time in the Horn's house and I felt all the time a heart full welcome. Jim's birthday is the same as mine (Sep 14th , that might weld us together), I was on vacation with my family...

Dede and Family,
What a shock to hear of Jim's passing. You've all been in our prayers. We're told life is a vapor. How true.

So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. I enjoyed working with Jim at 3M, and appreciated his wit and dry humor. Sincere condolences.

Dede and family,
Just wanted to say how sorry I was to read of Jim's passing.I haven't been in contact with you since my retirement from Palmer Law but I do think of you often. (My granddaughter lives katy-corner from the apartments on D)

To the Jim Horn Family,

Jim was a wonderful friend during my working years at 3M. I haven't seen Jim in many years, but have thought of him fondly. Jim helped me in my beginning years as an engineer. He was always willing to share his knowledge to help those who needed help. You have my deepest sympathy.
