Jim Hotchkiss was a cousin of my mother, Hazel Wightman Harlow. Their common grandfather was W.J. Hotchkiss, and Jim was very proud of the fact that W.J. played a leading role in building the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Jim cared a lot about all of his relatives, and he never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge and passion with any family member who was willing to listen. I am Mr. Hotchkiss' friendly Safeway checker. Over the years we became great friends. I have just now found of his passing, and I am truly saddened. Each Saturday at 2pm we had a standing date to discuss the weekly events. All check out lines stopped for him and we chatted, laughed and truly enjoyed our few moments of light hearted chit chat.
