Not sure what to say?

I miss Jim. I have thought of him often since backing away from folks in the dog world. Jim managed to do it with grace. I have tried to emulate that, not with the same degree of success I´m afraid. Jim was a mentor and friend. I miss both Jim and Sue.

I think of Jim whenever I drive or walk down the East Mississippi River Road. Many friends would report to me they'd seen a gaggle of Cairns being walked by a man along the river. Even here in my So. Mpls neighborhood I have been approached by strangers telling me about their friend from St. Paul who had Cairns. It was fun to say "You must mean Jim Hulbert." Another favorite memory of Jim was taking a weekend seminar at the U of M Vet School with him. There we honed our knowledge of...

Once me and Jim found gyropolis he started craving for it every few weeks, he also liked to try indian food. Once we ordered so much food he goes, " well this is dinner today and lunch the next day."

I can´t tell you how often Jim comes to mind. When I´m out and about I may be startled by someone of his stature, and possibly clothed in something he would wear. I think of him at dog shows, particularly shows where Artful Dodger or Sam Adams were declared the winner. I have fond memories of Jim and Sue coming here to evaluate show potential in our puppies at the 8-9 week mark. Jim and Sue knew a lot about the Cairn Terrier, and passed that information on to me when I was a Novice. ...

I enjoyed working with Jim in a variety of contexts at Northwestern. He was an interesting and positive person -- so easy to know and appreciate. My sincere condolences to Jim's family. I will miss him.

We met Jim through the dog fancy, and he kindly mentored us, and then became a friend. Over the years we shared many wonderful meals and evenings with Jim and Sue. When we bred our Cairn Terriers, Jim and Sue were always available to do the eight week evaluation; we valued their input because of Jim's extensive knowledge of the breed. We miss him and are sad that he left us too soon.

James was a treat to work with at NWHSU, he would keep me abreast of Washington High School events. He will be missed.

Jim had been a great mentor and friend, I worked with him for 8 years. Our offices were right across so I pretty much chatted with him every day. What binded us more is his flair for language, he knew Malay and he would recall his days in Sarawak as a teacher. He had a great sense of humor and always supported his young colleagues. We worked, we collaborated, it was so much fun. I learned a lot for him. Rest in peace Jim. Much love...Kash

Jim was a wonderful friend, mentor, teacher, and human being. He was a big believer in second chances and health care for all. He also truly believed in his students and faculty, and mentored them with all of the loving kindness in the world. Jim will be missed by everyone. May he Rest In Peace.
