James "Jay" Hurd, age 79, of Robards, KY, formerly of Owensboro, passed away at 2:30 AM, Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at his home. Preceded in death mother & father, Bonnie & Arlen Hurd, brother, Wallace C. Hurd, sisters, Johnnye Scott & Anna Marie Golday, and by his nephews: John Golday & Hugh Johns Jay attended Murray University, was a member of the Naval Air Cadets, and transferred to the Marine Corp. He was stationed and served in Japan as a sea rescue helicopter pilot. Jay is a graduate of KY Wesleyan. He opened the first coin-operated Laundromat in Owensboro, worked at Glenmore Distilleries in management, owned Tri-State Records servicing KY, TN, IN and IL. After retirement, he enjoyed many hobbies with his wife, Hellen: Creating stained glass art, motor home travel in 48 states, fishing, and extensive travel in the Friendship Force throughout England, Scotland, Europe and Asia. Survivors include: Wife: Hellen Johns Hurd Nephews: Tim Johns & wife Cindi Tommy Johns & wife Vickie Donald Johns & wife Rose Nieces: Jo Swanson & husband Bruce Tina Nobles & husband James Luanne Johns Jennifer Folan & husband David Kay Mulligan Anne Watson & husband Ken Ellen Redding & husband Randall Mickie Hall Sister in law: Mary Ruth Hurd Brother in law, Charles Johns Brother in law: Billy Hugh Johns Brother in law, James Golday Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Friday, September 30, 2011 at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY. Reverend John Guthrie will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Mausoleum, Henderson, KY. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday and from 1:00 PM until service time on Friday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to: Henderson Public Library, Brain Injury Adventure Camp, or Humane Society of Henderson Full Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Worsham Post #40.
