James Ingram Obituary

September 14, 1931 - February 7, 2018

James D. Ingram, III, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home. He was born on September 14, 1931 to James D. Ingram II and Verlie Hall Ingram in McBee, South Carolina. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years, with his final duty station being Bryan Air Force Base.

He met his wife of 65 years and 7 months, Erma, in Bryan on a blind date to the bowling alley, and they married on June 8, 1952.

In 1953, upon completion of his military service, Jim enrolled at Texas A&M and graduated with an accounting degree in 1956. He taught Accounting at Texas A&M from 1956-1960 and received an outstanding teaching award for the school year 1959-1960.

He obtained his C.P.A. certificate in 1960 and helped form the accounting firm of Durst, Wood and Ingram, where he practiced from 1960-1979. He then formed the accounting firm of Ingram, Wallis and Company in 1979, serving as its president until his retirement in 2012.

In 1966, the Jaycees selected him as the Outstanding Young Man of Brazos County. He served as president of numerous local organizations including the B-CS Chamber of Commerce, the Bryan Viking Club, Briarcrest Country Club and as an advisory director for Wells Fargo Bank.

He served his beloved profession by helping to form the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Texas Society of C.P.A.'s and serving as its first president from 1975-1976. In 1979, then-Governor Bill Clements appointed him to the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy where he served as chairman from 1983-1984. The Texas Society of C.P.A.'s honored him with the Meritorious Service to the Accounting Profession award in 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Erma W. Ingram; his son, James D. Ingram IV and wife, Susan; his daughter, Deborah I. DuBose and husband, Jerry; his grandchildren, Lauren Chapman and husband, Chris, Brandon DuBose and wife, Stephanie, Stacey Ingram, Shannon DuBose, and Avery DuBose; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with a funeral service to be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bryan, Texas or the charity of your choice.
