Schrader Funeral Home and Crematory - Ballwin Obituary

Boyd, James "Jim" LeRoy, went home to be with the Lord, whom he loved deeply and followed faithfully, on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 3:45 p.m. He resided in Ballwin, MO. Jim Boyd was born March 1, 1933 in Atlanta, GA, son of James LeRoy Boyd, Sr. and Helen Pearl Meador Boyd, the paternal grandson of Benjamin Hartwell Boyd and Maude Townsend Boyd, and the maternal grandson of Albert Delaware Meador and Ida May Bush Meador.

He cherished his family and worked hard to provide for them. He loved flying airplanes, camping, working with youth, singing in the choir, and creating improvements on his garden layout for his G-gauge model railroad trains. He was always ready to try something new. He was an Eagle Scout, and a cave explorer (spelunker).

Jim Boyd graduated from Decatur High School, University of Nebraska (B.S. Military Science), St. Louis University (M.S., Cartography), and Webster University (M.A.)

He was active in the Air Force (9 years, Captain), 51st Bombardment Squadron, and Cuban Missile Crisis; and the Missouri National Air Guard (20 years). He worked at the Defense Mapping Aeronautical Center (DMAC), including mapping the far side of the moon as a cartographer; the United Services Life Insurance Company (USLICO); and more.

He was a member of Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis, Gideons International, Eagle Scout Association, Good Sam’s Camping Club, Color Guard of Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Military Order of World Wars, Military Order of Retired and Active Duty, Missouri Air National Guard (MOANG), and other organizations.

He is preceded in death by his parents (James LeRoy Boyd, Sr. and Helen Pearl Meador Boyd) and his brother (Benjamin Meador Boyd).

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Charlotte E. Boyd, son William Le Roy Boyd (his wife Kristy), daughter C. Marie Boyd Braton (her husband Mark), and daughter Elizabeth “Beth” Boyd Wolf (her husband John), and four grandchildren Matthew Boyd, David Braton, Mindy Wolf, and Eli Wolf.

Not sure what to say?

I was able to get to know Jim at a skilled nursing facility he lived at. He was always so kind and sweet; I thought he was absolutely wonderful! My prayers go to his wife and his family for their loss and I hope they know how much Jim made an impact on others lives too.

My prayers for comfort and peace for family!!

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family

I had known Jim at the Kirk of the Hills since the early 1990's so I knew of his love for the Lord, also a little about his time with the Mapping Agency (now the NGIA) but until reading his obituary just now, I certainly didn't know ALL of his accomplishments, adventures and interests! To me he was always kind, straight-up, gentle, didn't put himself forward. Put another way, to me, he was always a real man. There are not enough men like Jim Boyd.
