James (Jim) Karcher, ended a lengthy struggle with dementia when he passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013.
In one of his last moments of lucidness, he described how excited and privileged he was to be undertaking a great journey to the West toward the sun. He mentioned how he was happy to be going somewhere he felt he truly belonged.
Jim was preceded by his loving wife of over 50 years, Memory Jean. When she died in 2009, he was never quite the same. He missed her terribly. Now he is reunited with her in heaven.
Jim is survived by his four children and one grandchild; daughters, Karen Karcher and Carla Karcher; sons, Clint (wife, Karen) and Bob Karcher (wife, Hollis); and his granddaughter, Katrina Bridges (husband, Jameson). Not to be forgotten is Tony Novak, who was indeed Jim's best friend and the best friend anyone could have had.
Throughout his working career, Jim was a salesman. This was easy to tell because he always had a story or joke to tell to everyone. He especially enjoyed relating his experiences while on Guam in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Jim got along well with everyone with whom he came into contact. This ability served him well in his life as he and his family moved extensively. Starting in Illinois, he moved to Missouri, then Arkansas, then Mississippi, then Illinois, then Mississippi, then Iowa, then West Virginia, and finally back to Iowa. Now his days of moving are at an end and he is finally home.
We, his family, will miss him but we know that he is now in a place with the one he loves most and we rejoice that he is completely without pain, suffering or fear.
