To the family and friends of Petty Officer 3rd Class James Layton:
Please accept my remembrance of James on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.

Doc, I just got the details of your heroic acts today. I was one week from being back at my home station when you and your Marines made the ultimate sacrifice. It (Afghanistan) was an awful place to be to hear the bad news everyday about more deaths. I got on that freedom bird and didn't look back. I didn't even listen for the bad news anymore. I missed out on your heroism by doing so. God bless you, Doc Layton. Thanks for your service and making the ultimate sacrifice.
