James Ernest Liedtke

Mr. Liedtke was a truly amazing
human being. I've never met another person who has as much passion for life as he always demonstrated and try to instill in other people.
Ever since I met him he has been
a part of my heart and I always try
every day "to open a new window,
open a new door"
Thank you for being a part of my life

Jim brought me flowers on my first day at Queensbury High. He came to the door of the cafeteria as I was doing lunch duty. When I told his nephew what that gesture meant to me at the time, he plucked a sprig from a funeral bouquet and gave it to me from Jim. I feel better knowing that Liedtke lives on in all of us who remember his kind heart.

Mr. Liedke was a wonderful, very patient, entertaining and effective teacher. I passed his speech class only because he tolerated my nervous laughter long enough for me to finish my final speech. Over the years I have thought of him often with admiration and appreciation. Deepest sympathy to his family.

Jim changed my life when he cast me in the star role of Alice in Wonderland. Indeed, many of us from all walks of life in South High School were given wonderful opportunities and experiences due to him being so wise and kind. I called him a couple weeks ago and he asked me, "Who am I talking to?" I replied with my name. That didn't ring a bell. The next time he asked I replied, "Alice, Alice in Wonderland." He then exclaimed, "Oh Alice, you're one of the most important people in my life."...

I will never forget marching around our classroom in 8th Grade singing "Open a New Window, Open a New Door" at the top of our lungs or being reminded of the importance of a firm handshake. The lessons Mr. Liedtke imparted have been invaluable. He will be missed.

JIM WAS A BRIGHT AND SHINNING STAR THAT WILL NEVER FADE.

Mr. Liedtke was my speech teacher at the South Glens Falls Junior High School many years ago. I hope he knew that he made a wonderful and lasting impression on his students. We may have been too young and self-centered to express it at the time. It was a fun class!

Like many others, I also had Mr. Liedtke for speech class. He was a gentleman. Impeccable manners, sweet disposition and never said an unkind thing in all the time I knew him. I am saddened by his death.

I went to Fremont Ross High School with Jim. I live in Minerva NY now. For years I saw his name in the Post Star and wondered if it was the same Jim Liedtke and I guess it was. I wanted to call him to find out but I never did.I was Wanda Smith.
