James Lynch Obituary

James "Jim" Robert Lynch passed away June 16, 2017 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette. He was 64 years old. Jim was born on August 12, 1952 in Marshalltown, IA to Robert T. and Janice D. (Barfels) Lynch. He graduated from Longmont High School in 1970; and got his associates degree in Fire Science Technology from Community College Denver Red Rocks in 1983. Jim worked as a Firefighter for the Longmont Fire Department for 39 years before retiring as the assistant Fire Chief. Over the years Jim worked his way up in the Fire Department before serving as the Chief of the Front Range Fire Academy from 2003-2008 and then as the Fire Marshall for the City of Longmont from 2008-2013 when he retired. One of Jim's proudest moments was when he led a group from the Colorado Urban Search and Rescue team to Ground Zero in New York following September 11th . Jim married Dianne Moses in Longmont in 2009. Jim was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and going to Sturgis, fishing, trips to Mexico and traveling, gardening and he loved to spend time with his family. Jim was an excellent handyman and mechanic who could fix everything including the trucks in the fire department. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Lynch and his mother Janice Lynch. Jim is survived by his wife Dianne; his son Jason Lynch of Florida; his stepson Bradley Moses (Kevin Stalder) of Colorado; his father Robert T. Lynch; his siblings Christine (Chris) Pisciotta, Thomas Lynch and Joel (Kathy) Lynch; numerous grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dearest friend Rick (Deanne) VanderVelde. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 2:30pm Friday June 23, 2017 at LifeBridge Christian Church. Memorial contributions can be made to The Firefighter Community Compassion Fund in care of Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
