Not sure what to say?

I am so sad to be learning about this. Jim was such a kind and gentle friend, always there to lend a hand or offer words of encouragement. He was also a deeply respected and valued colleague, someone I learned from as well as shared with as a teacher and coach. I know that Kathy and his entire family will miss him and hope that many memories of happy times will bring them peace, joy and comfort to fill the emptiness. May he Rest In Peace.

It's hard to believe that I had class with Jim Mathers about 42 years ago at Washington Irving Junior High School. This Week is Teacher Appreciation and I can't think of a better person to recognize. Mr. Mathers was an incredible teacher and a mentor to being a successful individual. I remember when Mr. Mathers bought a home on my street and was a frequent walker and always found time to stop and have a friendly chat with my mother.
A story Mr. Mathers told me, but didn't talk...

Just a simple "THANK YOU" for our times together--on and off the basketball court--the laughs--the talks/phone calls/lunches about life/stuff--you will be missed!!!!!!!

I have been thinking of you and are sorry for your loss.

Let me offer my condolences to all of Jim's family and friends. As his friend for 60 plus years I have always looked forward to his visits back to the "flat lands" of Illinois.Jim always has been a man of honor and true to his word.I look forward to the next road trip he is planning for all of us.It will be a joy!

Mr. Mather's was a wonderful neighbor, always stopping to chat with my mom during his walks. My brothers and I always had him on our list of "favorite teachers ever!" Our condolences to his family and to his former students who have lost a childhood mentor.

I truly enjoyed playing Basketball for this guy, he was a great coach!

Such a great teacher! God bless you all! Barb Rhodes Irving Jr High 73-76
