I was shocked to read in an RIT publication that Jim had passed away. I met Jim at RIT my freshman year and couldn't agree more with all of the comments about his charm and wit. When I think of Jim, I immediately smile and think of Cate because they were inseparable and such a loving couple as well as the best of friends. To Jims family, you have my prayers and condolences on the loss of Jim, he was a lovely man with a kind heart. To Cate, my heart goes out to you and am praying for you during this extremely sad time. I know you not only lost your partner in life but your very best friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Jim was a wonderful across-the-street neighbor to us. He showed up at our front door with flowers the day we moved in. He checked on me the day after I was hauled away by the rescue squad when I had a serious allergy attack. And he maintained surveillance on the town's road crew when they were repaving our street, making sure that they left the cul-de-sac better than they found it. We will miss him a lot.

To the McCarthy family and Cate. I wish to express my deepest, heartfelt condolences to all of you. I have worked with Jim for over 20 years. He was not only my employer; he was my friend. Jim was above all, a kind and generous soul and I will miss him terribly.
Sincerely,
Brenda Martin
