James J. McCloskey, Jr. of the Fishtown Section of Philadelphia, PA received his final reward on April 9, 2016 at the age of 89. Predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ann M. McCloskey (nee Bergman), he was the son of James John McCloskey and Freda McCloskey (nee Faist). He leaves daughters Patricia Brock, Geraldine Purcell, Susan Carter (Richard) and Theresa Bruno (Louis) as well as Brothers John McCloskey (Ann Marie), Alexander McCloskey (MaryAnne), Joseph McCloskey (Maureen) and Sisters Dolores Kelley and Jane Andress (Edward). He was grandfather to Tracey Brock, Edward Purcell, Jr., Michael Bruno, Christina Carter, Shannon Bruno, and Virginia Carter and great grandfather to Benjamin Purcell, Ryan Bruno, James Bruno, Gracie Joy Purcell. Lily Bruno, and Philip Magee as well as a loving and caring uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

James grew up in Philadelphia, summered in Strathmere as a Lifeguard, and served in the Army 1st Battalion Headquarters. After graduating from LaSalle University, he worked diligently for many years for the Delaware River Port Authority. He gave of his time to numerous organizations dedicated to serving County and Community not the least of which as a member of American Legion Post #88, Past Commander of AmVets Post No. 57, Knights of Columbus, the Malvern Retreat League, the Irish Society and the Association of Government Accountants. He also involved himself in local politics by serving as a Democratic Committeeperson.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing and Mass on Friday at Immaculate Conception Church between 10 A.M and 11:30 A.M., followed by his mass at 12 P.M, with a private family burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
