Not sure what to say?

Here's to all the candles we ever burned together. May your light always shine.

Jim was a remarkable and gifted teacher who challenged the status quo in showing us how to live our life in thoughtful creative design. I will always fondly remember Jim as English teacher my senior year at North Catholic High School in 1970. He made all of us think in ways that we were unaccustomed to and desperately needed. Of all the teachers in my life Jim was one of two that stood head and shoulders above all others! Teachers of this caliber a far too rare!

Slainte to Jim, on reaching the Omega Point! Here's to the prospect of rejoining you and sharing life stories with you and your many spirited friends,

Mr. McCully was my Algebra, French, and English teacher at Marycrest High School in the late 1950s. He was the first male teacher I ever had. After having only nuns who lived in sheltered convents, it was a radical experience to have a teacher who had lived in Paris. His many stories created a thirst for "seeing the world" that was only quenched when I later traveled, lived and worked outside of the U.S. for three years.

He changed my life.

Jim taught my French class at Jefferson High School in Portland many years ago (in the mid-1960s). He was a superb teacher and I encountered him several times over the years on the streets of Portland. You could always tell he was a man of great wisdom and, although a private person, someone of great warmth, kindness, and humor.

Jim was influential in my life several times. When I attended Marycrest High School, Jim exposed us to Camus, exitentialism, and God's abiding love. "God writes straight with crooked lines" Jim put on his creative bulletin board. He helped me make difficult decisions to leave the convent gracefully. He was so kind and generous; I'll remember him forever.

Jim has meant a great deal to me since I met him 25 years ago when we taught together. His intellect, wit, creativity, interest in the world, ability to listen and relate to people were extraordinary. He leaves a large hole in the world.

I knew Jim from Ascension Church. He said Angels would follow him on his walk to Church. He may have been a Saint.
