Jim with others at the Atlanta Families Surprise Day at HMES May 2017

To the entire McMahan family,
I am deeply saddened by your loss and all that you are going through at this extremely difficult time. As the former principal of Henderson Mill Elementary School, I had the pleasure of working with Jim since January of 2014. Over the course of those 4 1/2 years, I consistently saw the man that he truly was, a champion for the students of DeKalb County School District, an ardent supporter of our Lakeside Cluster, a leader in the community, and a dedicated...

Jim we will miss you every day. It was always a pleasure to see you and your family around the neighborhood at various events. We will keep you and your family in our prayers.

Jim was an outstanding public servant. In my conversations with him he was always very positive and supportive. Our community and schools need more committed residents like Jim. We will miss him. Our family sends condolences and prayers to the McMahan family during these difficult times.

Sebrina & Phillip Boyce and the Boyce and Lo'Boyce kids are broken hearted and are sorry for your loss. There aren't words that can explain how we treasured Jim. He was truly and asset to Dekalb County, its students and the community. Jim has so much compassion and grace with his educational purpose. Jim stood out to us and was always available to aid our family. Jim is well respected and has been a shoulder to lean on. Thank you Jim Thank you Jim Thank you Jim. We will miss you.

May God continue to comfort and keep the McMahan family in perfect peace. Sending healing prayers and comforting hugs. Gail and Marcus Browning.

So sorry for your loss. Prayers for comfort and peace.
Hoping your daughter recovers easily and quickly.
God is with y'all and he will make a way.

Prayers
Kathy Barnett

My condolences to the McMahan family. We are saddened to learn of Jim's passing. It was a joy to witness his love of family and service to the DeKalb community. He will be missed. You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

My heart goes out to the McMahan family. I had the pleasure of working with Jim on a number of education related issues. I will always remember how Jim conducted himself... a strong focus on students while keeping a light-hearted perspective. In other words, taking issues, not himself, seriously. Jim will be missed.

I am a member of the Lakeside family. I remember Jim's joy when he lit the bonfire four years ago at our Homecoming Pep Rally. I remember Jim's speech from the podium of the World Congress Center at Maddie's graduation. He expressed his love of his family and his commitment to service so clearly. Jim lived life large. And, so, his passing is a shocking loss for many, but none of us can comprehend the staggering weight you have been given to carry.

For now, Trust in the LORD...
