I served with Mr. McWilliams in 1959-1960 in A Co. 1/5 at MCB Camp Pendleton and at Camp Schwab, Okinawa. 1stLt McWilliams was our company CO and he was a first-rate by-the-book officer. He inspired all to do their best and he was well-liked by all. I was sorry to belatedly hear that he had passed at the relatively young age of 72.

I remember Jim from high school; he was one year ahead of me and the best player on a challenged football team. We never crossed paths in the Marine Corps but then, I did not hang around waiting for that to happen.

When Ed Collymore sent me a copy of Jim's obit, I passed it along to a few friends who might have known him. Their comments are as follows:

Colonel McWilliams was a great Marine and leader who influenced me greatly as a young officer under his command. My sincere condolences.
