James P. Menier, Jr., a life-long resident of Norfolk, VA, passed away peacefully, Monday, January 31, 2011. He was the grandson of the late Harvey and Elizabeth Nash and grew up in Glenrock. He was the son of the late James P. Menier. Jimmy, as he was known to his friends, or "The Count", as he was nicknamed by his Ironworker buddies, retired after more than 30 years as an Ironworker with Local Union 79. He helped build many of the structures in Hampton Roads, Tidewater area. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and served a short time as a Merchant Marine. Jimmy is survived by his mother, Thelma Arnold; an aunt, Doris Barcroft; his former wife, Lucille Menier; and their four children, Pam Menier Pitts and husband Rick, Beverly Sue Menier, James P. Menier, III, and Crystal Menier-Fifrick and husband Bill. He is also survived by Mary Ann Wells and their daughter, Jamie Ann Menier; five grandchildren, Shera, Tiffany, Tasha, JJ and Tommy; three great-grandchildren, Destiny, Maddison and Weston; numerous cousins and friends including Calvin Myers, Bill Sawyer and Buck Jones. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 3, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel. The burial with Army honors will follow in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
