MESSMORE, James M. - Of Grand Blanc, age 80, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Genesys Hospice Care Center in Goodrich. Memorial service will be held at 1PM Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at Grand Blanc United Methodist Church, 515 Bush Avenue, Grand Blanc, Reverend Roger L. Colby officiating. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Flint YMCA Foundation, Grand Blanc United Methodist Church or Genesys Hospice Care Center of Goodrich. Visitation 4-6PM Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. James was born in Flushing, Michigan on April 25, 1927 and was a lifetime resident of the Flint area. He married Beatrice Richards on October 8, 1955. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Eastern Michigan University and did graduate work at the University of Michigan. James had a lifelong commitment to community service and also served as President of the Flint YMCA and American Cancer Society. Mr. Messmore's career at General Motors involved personnel and administrative responsibilities. He retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. Surviving are wife, Beatrice; 3 children, Michael and wife Cynthia of Ann Arbor, Judith and husband Bradley Comeau of Birmingham, Thomas and wife Bobbie of Tampa, Florida; 6 grandchildren; many other relatives. I WAS SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT JIM. I REALLY LOOKED FORWARD TO SEEING HIM IN THE OFFICE. WHAT A CHARMER. I HAVE YOU ALL IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

I knew Jim from the water aerobics class at Genesys. He always had a smile and a joke for us.
He will be missed.Our class was always more fun when Jim was there.
