James Mitchell Obituary
Age 73, of Fort Mill, SC, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at his residence. He was born July 18, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late James A. Mitchell, Sr. and Marie Coakley Mitchell. James graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in 1955 and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed with the Veterans Administration as a Senior Management Analyst. James was especially interested in Civil War history and enjoyed many hobbies such as boating, fishing and travel. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Suzanne Mitchell; daughters, Deidre Teller (Robert) and Amy Mitchell; sons, James Mitchell (Natacha) and Daniel Mitchell; and grandchildren, Alexander, Eleanor, Jack, Ava, and Enzo. A prayer service will be held 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008, at McEwen Pineville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008, at McEwen Pineville Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Fort Mill, SC. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hospice and Community Care, 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, or to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, c/o Building Fund, 292 Munn Road East, Fort Mill, SC 29715.

Jim was my favorite uncle. He was serious and at the same time had a fantastic sense of humor. He had a broad knowledge of and interest in many subjects which made him a great conversationalist. I loved his sense of adventure. Whenever we met he always took a personal interest in me and how "things are going". I have great memories of summers at the Jersey shore, great conversations and lots of fun during holidays in Elmira especially Christmas - including him chasing us around the house and scaring us to pieces. He always made family gatherings more interesting and fun. I think I mostly appreciated his refreshing directness. He didn't beat around the bush when he chatted -everything was right to the point. I'm really sad that he is gone.
My sincere condolences to Aunt Susan, Deidre, Amy, Jamie, and Danny.
