Not sure what to say?

I knew Gus most of my life. I almost played trumpet for him in the 6th grade, but decided on football instead. Later in life we played and enjoyed golf together. He always had a smile and a kind word for me. One of the nicest men I have ever known. I will always think of him fondly. I will always cherish our friendship. LL

My deepest sympathies to all family and friends. Mr. Moody was a fantastic role model. He invested in each band student, as though the success of all depended upon the excellence of each one. I am grateful for his life lessons. How blessed I am to have known him.

Our deepest sympathy to your family in the passing of Gus. He was fine musician and true Southern gentleman. He was a mentor to many band directors in the state. We were blessed to call him "friend". He will be missed.

I was very sad to hear of Mr Moody's passing. I became a better musician having had the privilege of being a part of his band for a short period of time back in 1983. I met Mr Moody while I was drum major for the Camden High School Scarlet Regiment. He was so well respected among students across the entire state of South Carolina. We had a saying that we used when someone was out of line or misbehaving in anyway, we'd say "stop in the name of Gus Moody". It worked every time. Jan and Julie...

I was so saddened to hear of Mr. Moody's passing. I am so grateful to have had the privilege of being a part of his band. He made it an amazing experience and those memories will be with me forever.

I remember many Summers practicing our marching routines, and the excitement in the bandroom before our performances. Were our shoes white, and not dull_and our brass buckles polished-did we pass Mr Moody's inspection? When we marched, were our lines straight both across & diagonally. Pick up our knees. Those are the good memories that I have of MrMoody. Class of 1974.

Mr. Moody was the epitome of a southern gentleman and educator. I was fortunate enough to have been in the band under his direction. As has been stated by many, he taught young men how to be gentlemen and young ladies how to be women. He was one of two people to write me a recommendation to attend The Citadel, as I knew his recommendation meant a lot to the school and to me. He always remembered me when I saw him around town ( golf course ), and asked how my parents were doing. The best...

I feel humbled and blessed to have known "Gus". He was ever so generous and kind. I am thankful that he & Grace shared their daughter, Jan, with us and through that union, we have two awesome grandchildren, Grace & James. We will miss him at the family gatherings and the many stories, he shared with us. God's peace to the family.

I also didn't personally know Mr. Moody. But as a 2014 State Champion for Summerville High School. I say we owe him our legacy.
