NICKELSVILLE, VA – JAMES “LARRY” MOORE, AGE 82
James “Larry” Moore of Nickelsville, VA went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 while in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.
He was born in Wise County, VA on June 1, 1941 to the late Carmine Moore and Grace Bevins Moore. Larry was in the United States Army/Air Force for 23 years in which he successfully completed over 30 jumps. He was a police officer in Richmond where he served as a detective and was a member of the S.W.A.T. team. After retirement his extra-curricular activities included volunteering as an E.M.T. for Nickelsville Rescue Squad, was a member of Jericho Shrine Temple, Fidelity Lodge No. 173 A.F & A.M., The Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Order of Eastern Star in St Paul and also The Rebekahs. He was a previous member of Gate City Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, P.J. Moore and great-granddaughter, McKinley Davidson.
He is survived by his wife, Sue McConnell Moore; 2 sons, Jamie Moore and Bob Moore (Melanie); grandchildren, Lyndsey McElroy (David), Elizabeth Moore and Robbie Moore; great-grandchildren, Sawyor, Harlen and Lincoln; brother, Randy Moore; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 5 to 7 PM in the chapel at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA. and anytime at the residence of his son Bob (276) 479-1789. Service will begin at 7 PM following visitation with Rev. Rance Edwards officiating. Masonic Funeral Rites by Fidelity Lodge No. 173. Music will be provided by Sue Rentfrow and Doris Ann Jonas.
Larry will be laid to rest at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Addington-Frame Cemetery. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery by 1:45 PM.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Moore, Bob Moore, Lyndsey McElroy, David McElroy, Elizabeth Moore and Robbie Moore.
