My heart broke tonight, as I searched for Dr. Morris and found word of his passing in 2019. He was the first person I met at Christopher Newport University and became my advisor. His office was a refuge, his classes tough as nails, his smile mischievous and contagious, and his heart dedicated to knowledge, his students, and his family. Dr. Morris was my professor during my first two years at Christopher Newport University (2001-02) and his last two years there before he retired. I just loved him and I enjoyed his classes tremendously! I am so sorry to read of his passing almost two years prior. RIP to him; I know he is dressed sharply and enjoying his tobacco pipe in Heaven.

I was so sorry to read about Dr. Morris's passing. I loved having him as a professor at Christopher Newport. He was demanding but fair and encouraged all of his students to be the best they could. I enjoyed all of his stories, especially about his children whom he loved dearly and his insights on life. Your dad and grandfather was a GREAT history professor! I graduated from CNC in Dec 1975, and although I majored in English, I was actually certified to teach history also because of the classes I took under Dr Morris and another history prof. He was also a great department head. My sympathies to you all.
