Not sure what to say?

Jim was one of the kindest and most decent men I have known and it is a great loss that he died so young. I first knew Jim when I joined IDRC in 1986 and he was Vice President. After he left IDRC, I went on two science and technology review missions with him - to China in 1995 and 1996 and to Jordan in 2001 - and so came to know him in the field and to admire his hard work and intellectual honesty. My condolences to all the family.

Jim will always be remembered by me not only as far sighted colleague but as a dear friend and excellent travel companion

I have fond memories of Jim.. not only of his great patience and mentorship, but also of his tremendous cultural awareness and lively ability as raconteur.. Amng his many talents on the international scene, Jim was a superb ambassador for Canadian-South African diplomacy.. we spent some memorable times in Cape Town helping develop the first Green Paper on science and technology for the new Mandela Government .. I know Jim will be missed by his friends there and here.. To Rita and family my...

I succeeded Jim as Secretary of the Science Council. I was a novice who got tremendous help from Jim for which I will forever be thankful. I was never as good as him. He will be missed by everyone who ever had him as a colleague or as a friend.

I remember Jim from the Science Council and always thought of him as a decent and empathetic person. A "mentsch" In conversation with others it always seemed that Jim would be there to talk of the "old days" His loss is sad for his family and for his many friends old and new.

Our sympathies to your entire family on the loss of Jim

Dear Rita, Paul, Colleen and Seamus, I was deeply saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Jim was a boss, a colleague, a friend and a mentor. I worked and travelled with him for many years, and never once had a bad day. His motto was "to let many flowers bloom", and I have been fortunate to have been guided by his wisdom throughout my career. I have marveled at his contribution to science and development. I have been amazed by the way he was able to connect with people, anywhere. Sometimes,...
