PARRISH, JAMES "I'M SHY," JAMES PARRISH used to say to virtually everyone he encountered, and for a few seconds, before reality set in, it was always tempting to believe him. The big man with the expansive smile had so many qualities we often associate with shyness-humility, grace and a gentle,...

Not sure what to say?

I met James 36 years ago at Temple, and in the exact moment we spoke to each other, I believed it was fate that he was to be in my life. I last spoke to him 28 years ago. I loved him because he was larger than life itself and I couldn´t get enough of the huge shining light he would exude every time he entered into my hemisphere. To say he was a monumental force in my journey is an understatement. I feel his presence during certain situations and it always makes me smile and feel safe. I am...

This comes way too long from JP's passing to offer my condolences, but I was absolutely compelled to let you all know what tremendous person he was. I met JP while at Temple University. He played football, and I played Lacrosse. James was in my dorm, in my classes and was larger than life in any room he entered. Such a nice person with an incredible sense of humor and demeanor. I absolutely remember that JP was always nudging everyone to say hello and always meet a stranger. JP...

Through a random question, I was reminded of my interaction with Parrish. It was so many years ago and I couldn't quite recall the name as I only met him once. I was a receptionist at a VC firm. Parrish came in and introduced himself. Obviously not a football watcher, I didn't recognize the name. While he was waiting, he made small talk with me. Totally at ease. He let me try on his Super Bowl ring. His demeanor was just so friendly and casual. When I heard about his passing a few years...

JP 1985

Jennifer,
It has been 18 years since I last saw JP. I am so sorry for your loss and even sorrier that I did not hear of JP's untimely passing soon enough to pay proper respect. I remember JP as a gentle giant. In high school, JP always had a smile on his face and joy in his soul. After reading the many respectful articles of his struggle and passing, it is good to know that JP's heart and charm only got better with age and success. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family....

Dear Jennifer, Miss Sharon and family: It is with a saddened and heavy heart that I send my deepest condolences. JP had such a brightness and joy about him even as a young boy. I have fond memories of playing as kids with JP, Cheryl, Gary and Walter in Columbia. JP will be greatly missed, but rest assured, our Lord has welcomed him back home to live in peace and without pain. We'll see him again. May God bless you and keep you in His care.
