James Phillips

I just saw this. Jim and I became good friends in college and remained so for years thereafter. He nicely influenced my life in a number of ways, like my interest in the Civil War, which started when he invited me to a camping trip to Gettysburg alongside one of his brothers. He really was a fun person in those days of youth. In more recent years we happily were able to resume a correspondence via e-mail. I will always remember him fondly.

I worked at the post office with Jim. We were good friends. We played chess quite often, and usually had a beer together with the game. He was a really nice man, who will be missed, and fondly remembered.

I knew Linda and Jim from the Historical Society of Michigan meetings mostly, particularly the UP conferences. I will miss the tales of their travels, their wit and intelligence. Jim was an inspiration to me. Linda was a joy. They loved their family.

I had the privilege of caring for Jim. He was such a lovely man. Always upbeat and positive in the face of his challenges. So sorry for your loss.
