Dick Piland was a good friend for over sixty years! He was such a kind and thoughtful fellow, who
always genuinely "cared" about other people.
He was certainly blessed to have Suzanne for a wife, and especially for her wonderful loving care
and companionship in his last difficult years with many health issues.
Dick will be missed by so many.
Bill Scharwatt

I always admired Dick. I enjoyed conversations with him. He was a true friend and I will always remember him.
Sgt John Ingram

The first time I learned of Dick was while rafting on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon from his cousin Gene in 1993. I was newly engaged to a man living in Portland, OR. Gene assured me that Dick would enjoy showing me Portland, even though I was a stranger. Serendipity is quirky and curious. My new husband knew Dick and they got together regularly. Now we would all get together, with Suzanne, too. My husband passed away. Dick and Suzanne remained faithful, much loved...

Dick was a fine man and a great friend, from high school days on. He gave advice when asked and sympathy when needed, and he laughed at my jokes. He loved children and was unfailingly kind to mine. A good person who will be missed.

I was sadden to hear about the loss of a dear friend. We meet while attending Glencoe Grade School and were close neighbors, only a few blocks apart. Unfortunately that was just enough that he attended Washington High School and I ended up at Franklin High School. During those sixty plus years of our lives we remained close friends and will truly miss Dick, a wonderful and kind person.

Dick and I attended Washington HIgh School at the same time, and then met again while I was a Multnomah County Deputy Sheriff. While serving a few weeks as a Court Guard, Dick and I met for an occassional lunch. I should've took his advice to stay as a Deputy but the Feds called and I left the Sheriff's Office. I am a great admirer of Dick; he was a great cop. All those who knew him had great respect for his countless attributes and contributions. God Speed my friend.

I met Dick in 1973 when I came to Portland and worked for Multnomah County briefly. I was very interested in public policy and the criminal justice system and he and I immediately hit it off as he educated me about the County and Portland and law enforcement. He was one of the smartest guys I ever met. We stayed in loose touch over the years after we moved to Eugene and especially after he retired. We met him and Suzanne for a weekend in Newport and they came to Eugene to see a track meet...

I concur with the many that have known and worked with Dick ... A gentleman and a friend. I'll miss him.
