Mr. Podraza was my football coach, but more importantly was my Chemistry teacher. He introduced me to my career, and was a big part of the kind of man I became. Not a week goes by that I don't think of him. He was one of two men that made the biggest impact on my life. I will miss him, and I will pray for him.

My condolences to the Podraza family on the passing of Jim. Jim and I started our teaching careers together at VVS in 1957. We also coached track together for a little while. We also spent many an afternoon on the golf course. He was a very good man. Rest in peace.

What a coach! What a teacher! What a man! Mr Podraza was all those things and more. He respected kids. They respected him. He set a perfect example in being good at everything he did. He knew when to joke and when to buckle down. He taught us the difference. He just wanted us to do our best. On the field he was the coach and you were there to compete. Winning was important but doing your best was more important. Teamwork..do your part. He led us to do things we couldn't have done on our...

Jim was my football coach at VVS 1963-65. He left an indelible impression me. When I became an Infantry Platoon leader in Vietnam, some of the determination, focus and fortitude I picked up from "Coach" helped carry me through.
Educators like Jim really do not realize what a lasting impression they create on people. I have thought of him many times over the years. I rememeber his toughness but also remember his loving the students, the players and the career of an educator.

He was my Principal from 1984-87 and he left a huge impression on me that is still with me to this day. I will never forget betting with him on the 1986 world series (the Mets won). Thomas Baumgartner
