James D. “Jim” Poorbaugh, 77 of Alverton, passed away at 3:20 PM Monday, December 6, 2021 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Jim was born May 18, 1944 at Hawkeye in East Huntingdon Township, a son of the late John Henry and Eva (Bitner) Poorbaugh. He married Ruth Ann (Hunker) Poorbaugh on September 5, 1964.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He retired from Duraloy Blaw-Knox in Scottdale where he worked for years as a foreman. Jim was a longtime and faithful member of the Center Bethel Church of God where he served as a trustee. A graduate of East Huntingdon High School, Class of 1962, he was the ultimate outdoorsman, enjoying hunting especially bow hunting, fishing, and competing in sling-shot tournaments at the East Huntingdon Sportsman Association where he served as President years ago. He and his wife also were active members of the Laurel Swingers Square Dancers.

Jim will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann (Hunker) Poorbaugh; his two children, Jeffery Poorbaugh and wife Linda (Domineck) and Denise (Poorbaugh) Schwartz and husband Shawn; his grandchildren, Kyle Poorbaugh, Justin Poorbaugh and wife Courtney (Denza), Amber (Poorbaugh) Cook and husband Peter, Joshua Schwartz and wife Evelyn (Schwer), Carlea (Schwartz) Rodeheaver and husband Jared, and Tanner Schwartz; his great grandchildren, Addie Denza, Landon Cook, Layla Cook, Elowen Cook, Quinn Schwartz, and Wyatt and Scarlett Rodeheaver; his sister, Kay Beavers and husband Donald of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Calvin “Butch” Poorbaugh; and his sister, Diane Poorbaugh.

Personalized arrangements are under the professional supervision of the ROBERT B. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, 105 SPRING STREET, SCOTTDALE (www.fergusonfunerals.com). At Jim’s request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
