At the Center of Things
Since childhood, when he sneaked train rides to the hotel where the ball players stayed, James Quinn would find a way to be at the center of the action, and he had dozens of photographs to prove it. There was Jimmy with Wayne Gretzky, Jimmy with Michael Jordan, Jimmy with Will Smith. "You never knew how he would get in," said Noreen Quinn, his mother. "He would just walk in like he belonged."

But he was interested in less famous people too, and closely followed the basketball career of his younger brother Joseph, a West Point cadet. Though James, 23, loved the excitement of being a fledgling trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, he did not mind entertaining a young cousin or an elderly aunt.

Late one night when he was a teenager, his mother remembered, he called to say he had gotten a ride to the end of the Marine Parkway Bridge. When she arrived to pick him up on the Brooklyn side, she discovered the bridge was closed for construction. But there came Jimmy; he had persuaded the workers to radio to those on the other side to let him across, telling them his mother was waiting.

"I really thought he would come out of the darkness this time," she said. "I really did."

In Memory
With Honor & Respect.

I "met" Jimmy Quinn on a bitter cold morning in 2001 when my eye was drawn like a magnet to a piece of bright green poster board containing a happy birthday message.

Jimmy is remembered each year on September 11th, and on occassions when I hear that last name. This past week's episode of Blue Bloods used the name Jimmy Quinn, and seconds later the camera focused on a photo of the twin towers - I doubt it was a coincident. This caused me to again look up his name in a search...

Quinn Hayes (great great grandson of Jimmy's great grandmother) in his 15th Annual Mets Game shirt salutes Jimmy.

So sad, so many lives lost. You are in our thoughts.

Maybe us "Quinn's" should stick together. I saw James' name in granite at the NYC site ON TV on ESPN on 9/11/16 @ 10:14 am MDT. I got to thinking about his life, because my first cousin has nearly the same name: James Eugene Quinn. I, too, had been a stockbroker for 12 years. Thomas Patrick Quinn, Lakewood, CO born 1954.

God Bless You, Jimmy!

GOD BLESS!

I posted a tribute to Jimmy on Sept. 8, 2002. Tonight I was thinking about 9/11 again and remembered all of the senseless victims. As time recedes I hope we always remember.

Another year has passed . . . .we think of you still.
