Not sure what to say?

My deepest condolences. I fell down a rabbit hole while reading the biographies of my philosophy textbook (The Elements of Moral Philosophy, 10th Edition) and was sad to learn of James's passing. He is an excellent writer and the teachings in the book as presented by him and his son are well said and thought out. I have thoroughly enjoyed the lessons and examples he gives. Hats off to Stuart for continuing to revise and publish this work.

To the family of James Rachels. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with him as part of his office staff in the early 1980's. He was one of the funniest and sweetest men I'd ever met. I will never forget some of the precious stories he would tell about his boys and their arguments and how well his wife handled them. How he loved his family.

My deepest sympathies and fondest memories to the family of Dr. Rachels. He was the epitome of kindness and intellectualism.

To the family I send my sincerest and deepest condolenses. This was a terrible loss indeed that will be felt by many. Dr. Rachels was a wonderful professor who will be much missed by his students.

Carol,
My thoughts and paryers are with you at this time.
