James Kenneth Robinette
Ypsilanti Twp., Michigan
Age 77
Went home to be with the Lord peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 7th, 2020. He was born in Varney, Kentucky on November 9th, 1942. He was the son of the late Leonard Robinette and Bronice Young Robinette. He is survived by his wife of 56 wonderful years, Mary Robinette, His son Greg Robinette and his wife Paula, his daughter Tammy Robinette Hamilton and her husband Ron. The joys of his life were his six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Grandsons, Gregory, Noah, and Zachary. Granddaughters Shelby, Kyleigh and Audra. Great-grandchildren Evelyn, Charlotte and Jacob. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Sidney, Paul, Charles, and Howard. A lifelong tinkerer and creative inventor, there was never a problem that Papa James was not willing to tackle and solve. Hours spent in his barn putting back together and fixing things that most people would long ago have given up on, was always one of his favorite things to do. And any project he worked on with any of his grandchildren was almost always guaranteed to end up with an amusing story for all parties involved. A loving personality who anyone who ever met, would never be able to forget. Time spent with him was some of the most precious time you could have. Whether it was a tractor ride, sipping tea on the porch swing, bee-keeping, making a real suit of armor, building a Civil War encampment, or even if you were stuck on a boat several miles out on Lake Erie, completely out of gas, it was always going to be some of the best moments of your life. Papa James’s legacy is how he raised his children and how they raised their own children. His work ethic, love of family, and sense of humor helped us all to navigate life’s ups and downs. Papa James was quiet about his faith, yet he lived it out every single day. He never met a stranger, and would offer help to anyone at the drop of a hat. He loved to listen to old hymns and bluegrass. His laughter was infectious and anyone around him couldn’t help laughing when he did. He was an example to all of us in how to live life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted in the hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.
