Not sure what to say?

what a good guy! we played as team-mates on our medical fraternity basketball team. years later he sent me a photo of him in a UNC basketball uniform dunking the ball; next view shows that he's on a ladder.

What a great human being! Jim Scatliffe was a master educator. He love to teach...anyone: residents, physicians outside his own department, and certainly medical students. He had a wonderful wry sense of humor and a calming deep authoritative voice. I loved being around him as he always had such a positive attitude. In the latter years of his career I enjoyed simply exchanging a few words when we would happen to meet during the course of a work day.

Dr. Scatliff, skilled diagnostic radiologist, creative teacher, devoted husband and father, and able administrator who gave me the opportunity and enabled our family to be welcomed in my role as UNC Resident in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine in preparation for an academic career, seeking to model the style and skills and human sensitivity of my respected teacher and friend. Judy and I are eternally grateful to Jim and Irene Scatliff for including us and our children In the very special UNC...

Such great memories of Dr. Scatliff, Irene, and the two "little girls" (when I first met them in the 1960's) He was a true gentleman, and working with him and in his department for 28 years was an honor. Many great memories were made during those years. My thoughts and prayers are with his children, grand-children and other family members.

I am very sad to have lost my mentor, a close friend, and the most outstanding medical educator I ever encountered.

Amy and Julia, thinking of you and your families in this time of loss and transition. What a beautiful write-up of your dad's life. Seems like quite an honor to be his kids.

The epitome of the scholar and gentleman, Dr. Scatliff was among the finest physicians, teachers, and individuals I have ever know. It was both a pleasure and honor to train under him as one of his residents and to be his friend. My most heartfelt condolences to the family for your profound loss. Gary Fischer-UNC Radiology Resident 1974-1978

Amy, I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your Father. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort in the days ahead.
