Not sure what to say?

Fifty years ago I met Jim at Neanderthal Federal, a S&L that perhaps a few other of Jim's acquaintances might fondly recall. Jim had a wonderful sense of humor. It's been a pleasure and an honor to know and work with him over the years. He has earned, and deserves, the respect and admiration expressed by everyone here.

Jim was one of Illinois Wesleyan University's most distinguished graduates. He served on the university's board of trustees for many years. Add his superb accomplishments in family, life and business and it all adds up to a life well lived. He will be sorely missed. As we say in Sigma Chi, all honor to his name.

Mr. Schmidt...what a wonderful man. I worked for San Diego Federal/Great American for 14 years. He never ignored "the little guy". Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Jerrie,

I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing.

We all will miss his unending kindness wrapped around his political courage.

He was a great but unsung leader in San Diego.

His quiet courtesy to all parties worked magic in great disputes such as the Coronado Bridge Fees and dozens of other transportation-related issues.

We all drive on miles of local freeways the Jim successfully championed through the state and SANDAG.

I am grateful to both Jim and...

Jim was a true leader in San Diego over many years in that he wasn't involved for personal gain or to flatter his ego, he just wanted his community and the world to be better. I will miss him.

Dear Jerrie and Family,

San Diego will miss Jim. He was a remarkable man of high integrity and loyalty--a man with intense passion for worthy causes.

In the over 50 years I knew him, he was at times my boss, my respected adversary, and I'm proud to say, always my friend.

With sympathy and love,

Bob Adelizzi

My Prayers and thought go out to the Schmidt family on their loss of a wonderful family man and person. Jim was a credit to his family, his community and to the many years of service to Sigma Chi and lived the christian principles upon which it was founded. So long my brother, rest in peace. In Hoc, from a fellow Illinois Wesleyan Grad.

I am saddened to hear of Jim's passing. My deepest condolences. He was wonderful to work with and for and I will miss seeing him around town. He contributed so much to this community.

Our warmest condolences to Jerrie and the family. Jim will live on in the memories of those of us who knew and loved him. He will remain my model of integrity and personal generousity and the time that I got to spend with him through the years while working together was some of the best moments of my life. He was just the best, all other words fail me at this sad time. Our our love to you.
