Not sure what to say?

He was my great grandfather i have letters from him but sadly no memories i would learn about you through my father Doug and Grandfather Mike, I read your books and pattens hope to spread about you to my family one day.

On behalf of The Optical Society (OSA), please accept my condolences. Dr. Schulman was an OSA member for nearly 50 years and a Fellow Emeritus of the Society. We would like to post a memorial tribute on our website and also honor Dr. Schulman at our next Annual Meeting. I would appreciate if someone could provide a photo (head shot) and his year of birth, along with any other information that the family would like included in the tribute. Please contact me with questions.

I have never met this man but am proud to say that I work day in and day out with his grandson. James raised a fine family and that in my opinion is the greatest measure of a man and his accomplishments. "Go with and be with", My best to all his Family.

Bill and I were saddened to learn of Uncle Jimmy's passing. We have been recalling many wonderful visits with him. He never ceased to share his unique sense of humor with Bill. They also traded many email messages to solve global problems. Whenever I was in Washington I visited him and we brought each other up to date with our lives. Uncle Jimmy's passing was the last of the "Greenfield" side of the "Elders". The new "Elders" will keep his memory alive in our hearts.

I WILL MISS MY UNCLE JIMMY. IT WASN'T UNTILL I WAS A GROWN WOMAN THAT I LEARNED HOW BRILLIANT HE WAS. HE TAUGHT ME SOME GOOD MOVES TO IMPROVE MY CHESS GAME AND TALKED WITH ME AS THOUGH MY OPINION MATTERED. ALTHOUGH I HAVEN'T SEEN HIM FOR A FEW YEARS, WE USUALLY TRADED HOLIDAY GREETINGS. HIS PASSING IS THE END OF A GENERATION IN MY FAMILY. I WILL MISS MY UNCLE JIMMY!

I hadn't seen Jim for many years, but we started an e-mail exchange a few years ago. Thus, even at a distance, I had the privilege of enjoying his knowledge, wisdom and humor. He was an extraordinary person.
